Mary Adams Urashima will discuss her book “Historic Wintersburg in Huntington Beach” on ini cerita lucahSaturday, Nov. 22, at 2 p.m. at the Japanese American National Museum, 100 N. Central Ave. in Little Tokyo.
Historian and author Urashima will trace the fascinating history of Wintersburg Village, a vanished Japanese American pioneer community located in present-day Huntington Beach. Settled in the 19th century by descendants of samurai clans, Wintersburg was recently named one of America’s 11 Most Endangered Historic Places by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Urashima created http://HistoricWintersburg.blogspot.com to generate more awareness about the history of Japanese Americans in Orange County. She is chairing a community effort to preserve the century-old Furuta farm and Wintersburg Japanese Presbyterian Mission complex, now in jeopardy of demolition. Her book was released by History Press in March 2014.
